DIY Rabbit / Bunny Cage for cheap

This large bunny rabbit cage we did on the cheap. A friend gave my daughter a lion headed bunny rabbit baby for Easter. My hubby went to Target and got a cube kit (2) of them for 24.99 each.

If you do not have a Target near you- you can get almost the exact same cubes online at amazon and with prime they can be at your door in 2 days – Whitmor 6070-968-BLK Black Storage Cubes, 6-Set

We had pvc and carpet and zip ties on hand. He assembled it and now we have a really fun cage for our bunny.

We used up plywood and pvc we had in the shed. Along with left over carpet and just made it up as we went along.

Zip ties to  hold all the pieces together and PVC for support just wrapping the zip ties as we felt they were needed.

Originally we only made it 2 floors big, however we had EXACTLY enough panels from using 2 sets and decided to go for it and make a 3rd level.

Our top door to access the bunny on the 3rd level.

To keep the cage closed we use these clips to ensure she stays in

We also have an entrance to the cage at the 2nd level/1st level too. Double doors.

The green hanging bed is actually a ferret bed we got at pet supermarket. She loves to sleep in it. 🙂

She has a litter box on the 1st level with pine shavings. She is litter box training and doing a great job.

You could have a floor of the cage if you added plywood. We decided we didn’t need a floor.

We are very excited how this cage turned out. A cage this large would have cost us easily 200.00 and up. We did it for 50.00 for the cage (we had all the wood/carpet/pvc stuffed in our shed from left over projects).  And the bunny accessories were an extra cost.

Under all the levels and the ramps are those metal squares from the cubes. Just attached with zip ties to PVC as needed.  Each box has 20 squares. Using 2 sets gave us 40 squares and we used all 40.

Everyone that has come by has loved the cage and how much room she has. We love it too!! 🙂

If you have questions please let us know.  This isn’t so much of a tutorial since we just assembled this as we went along. You could customize it any way you want.

Enjoy!
